Sunita Jain, born on July 13, 1941, in Ambala district, Haryana, India, was an accomplished Indian scholar, novelist, short-story writer, and poet, known for her contributions in both English and Hindi literature. She held a BA from Indraprastha College for Women, an MA from Stony Brook University, and a PhD from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Jain had a prolific career, publishing over 80 books and translating many Jain and Hindi works into English. She received various accolades, including the Padma Shri in 2004 and the Vyas Samman in 2015. Jain passed away on December 11, 2017​.​
